Mariachi Aztlán combines tradition and experience with energy and innovation. Being lovers of Mexican culture and its traditions, our goal is to be confidants and advisors to all those who want to express feelings and emotions through music to live experiences that last over time and remain engraved in the soul.
To be an artistic and cultural reference at the National level through the creation of artistic expression spaces such as dance and singing, evoking the traditions and customs of the culture of Mexico.
Mariachi Aztlán assumes its role as cultural ambassador, together with the Ballet Folklorico Aztlán, preserving and presenting the beauty of Mexico's culture and traditions to the widest public with the best educational and quality content in the Canadian capital.
The Ballet Folklórico Aztlán was founded by Josué Nieto, Mauro Rosario and Vera Escobell in 2001 and for more than two decades it has been the most emblematic company of traditional folk dance in the Canadian capital. He has also toured internationally throughout Europe, South America and North America.
The company attracted the attention of different government agencies, and different companies in the private sector, as well as provincial and federal cultural organizations, this catapulted the Ballet Folklorico Aztlan to take its show to other cities and eventually to international tours. The result obtained was so big that it gave the BFA another dimension. Specifically, the Othli medal and recognition by the government of Mexico.
The Aztlan mariachi was born as an idea by Josue Nieto to establish a mariachi in the capital of Canada as a symbol of culture, tradition, identity and sounds that exalt emotions..
After so many years of effort by our general director Josue Nieto as well as the dancers, in September 2022 we are officially CIOFF family(International Council of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts).
I feel very excited and grateful for the recognition that has been given to Ballet Aztlan by the City of Gatineau, the result of the discipline and great work that we have been doing over these 20 years. - Josue Nieto.
